Carl Rungius (1869-1959)

Hiro Fine Art is interested in purchasing artworks by Carl Rungius.

Carl Rungius was born 1869 near Berlin, Germany, and became known for his wildlife paintings and etchings. His grandfather was a big game hunter and in the taxidermy business, giving Rungius exposure to wildlife at a young age. As he grew older, he too went big game hunting and became more inspired by nature. After studying art in Berlin and painting in the realist style, he moved to New York where he worked commercially. Falling in love with the West and Northwest, he traveled West to hunt and paint dramatic nature scenes. His scenes range from the Yukon to Yellowstone to Arizona, depicting large animals and surreal landscapes. They were highly admired by President Roosevelt. He traveled between his Brooklyn studio and his summer studio in Banff, Alberta, until his death in New York in 1959.
