Edwin Munot Dawes (1872-1945) Forest Interior
Oil on canvas
17 inches x 24 inches (43 cm x 61 cm)
Edwin Dawes creates this beautifully rendered forest interior with a subtle treatment of light and color that is a hallmark to his style. The trees feature a few growing leaves as they enter into spring. The soft light and airy atmosphere further enhance this change of seasons.
The body of water along the lower right, reflects the trees and sky and beautifully blends into the foreground to the left. Dawes painted this work en plein air and employed an impressionistic style with the loose brushstrokes and spontaneity of paint. The vertical presence of the trees contribute to the depth and dynamism of the composition.
