Simon Sparrow (1925-2000)

Hiro Fine Art is interested in purchasing artworks by Simon Sparrow.

Simon Sparrow was an artist who was born in West Africa and lived with the Yoruba people until he was two years old. He then moved to North Carolina and lived in a Cherokee Reservation. Sparrow later moved to Philadelphia and New York where he worked on painting homes and as a cook.
Sparrow was a self-taught artist who began painting in the 1960s. Soon after he began painting he moved permanently to Madison, Wisconsin with his wife and children. He was known in Madison as an artist and street preacher and used his art to help spread his spiritual message. His art matured in the 1980s with his large and complex assemblages. He received a Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 2012.
